Pra Ajarn explains that frequently needing the bathroom during sitting happens because concentration hasn't set in yet — it's impurity obstructing by every means. Sit often until impurity thins, and everything settles by itself.

Someone asked: why do I keep feeling the urge to use the bathroom during meditation, but doing other things I don't notice it or forget it entirely — how can I fix it so I can sit without going to the bathroom?

Because Concentration Hasn't Set In Yet

It happens because concentration hasn't set in yet. Once it does, the urge goes away — otherwise, those who sit across days and nights couldn't sit at all. When the mind is distractible, this is how it goes.

Impurity Obstructs by Every Means

As we keep sitting, im thins. But while impurity remains, it obstructs us by every means — making us drowsy, restless, sleepy, needing the bathroom, or wanting to do this or that: wanting to sweep the house, gather the laundry, do the washing, all while sitting in meditation. These are all inner voices that impurity guides and can compel.

Sit Often Until Impurity Thins, and Everything Settles by Itself

Where there's impurity, it can do this. So one must sit often to thin the impurity. Once impurity thins, everything settles by itself.
