Pra Ajarn confirms that sitting until still with less wandering is good; give more time to the wholesome and to nibbana, because whatever we give time to shapes us. The longer we give, the more they can refine, and the more the stream of merit and treasure flows through.
Someone asked: if I sit and can be still, with little wandering, sitting for long stretches — is this good?
It's Good: Whatever We Give Time To Shapes Us
Certainly it's good. We must give time. Give time to music and become skilled at music; to sport, and skilled at sport; to studying a language, and skilled at language. Whatever we give time to shapes us to be skilled in that.
Give More Time to the Wholesome and to Nibbana
Since we give time to sitting, we give time to and to nibbana, so they refine our elements to . Sitting, one becomes more still, with less wandering. The longer we give them, the more they can refine, and the greater the benefit; the stream of merit and treasure flows through us more, the Triple Gem shines at our center, drawing more merit in, bringing more purification and liberation, increasing the wholesome proportion and reducing and neutral.
Every Second Counts, If the Wholesome System Overlays
Many good things arise, so long as we give the time and the chance for them to help us. Give time to the unwholesome, it ruins us; give time to the neutral, it squanders our time and resources with no benefit — giving it day and night gains nothing. But giving time to the wholesome yields benefit. Every second counts if the wholesome system overlays and draws merit in continuously. So we should give time to the wholesome nature to drive the system that refines and helps us.
