Not necessarily. Impurity arises only when an unwholesome force is directing the activity from behind the scenes — it depends on which natural force the mind is going along with at that moment. Even sitting meditation itself can let demerit flow in if the mind consents to the unwholesome.
Someone asked: do all daily activities besides closing the eyes to meditate — conversing, eating, walking, working, and other everyday activities — inevitably create im?
First, it helps to understand: impurity clings to an activity only when an unwholesome force is directing it from behind the scenes. Without that unwholesome presence, impurity simply cannot arise. It arises because demerit has entered that dimension and is drawing in more demerit to shape our behavior. If we're aligned with the neutral force instead, that draws in neutral energy; if aligned with , that draws in merit. It all depends on which natural force we're partnering with during a given activity.
Even sitting meditation is no exception. If, while sitting, we consent and go along with , demerit can flow in just the same. It depends on which force is occupying the mind at that moment, since the mind itself works like a receiver drawing energy in — it depends on what kind of "software" the mind is running. If it's unwholesome software, that means the unwholesome has taken hold and is drawing in demerit-energy. If it's wholesome software, the wholesome has taken hold instead, drawing in merit-energy.
