Someone asked the teacher about sacred crystals — having heard that even a small one carries great power, and that one should care for it and dedicate merit to it so that wishes come true.
What a Sacred Crystal Is, and Why It Carries Power
The teacher explained that in daily life, unwholesome forces are always looking for ways to create obstacles. The wholesome side relies on a guardian spirit — a being of pure power that watches over and assists us. Teachers who have realized find ways to invite such guardians, present throughout the world and cosmos, to reside within a crystal or gem, so they can protect its holder. But receiving that help still depends on the holder's own merit as the foundation — the guardian doesn't grant merit to us; we still have to generate it.
Everything that works needs energy to drive it. How much a guardian spirit can help depends on how steadily we hold our attention on the crystal. Wherever we focus, the mind settles there; wherever the mind settles, arises there, and merit flows through there. Stay with the crystal for five minutes, and merit flows for five minutes — which the guardian then uses to help us.
Does a Sacred Crystal Need to Be Carried?
Someone asked whether it needs to be carried at all times. The teacher answered: if kept at home, it watches over the household and children there; if carried, it goes along and protects wherever you go. As we hold it in mind, merit flows through it, and even without stating a specific request, it will still protect us from danger and harmful spirits. If we want particular help, we simply form the intention and let it know — because as we recollect it, it holds us in mind too, and merit flows continuously.
Is It Wrong to Buy One Without a Teacher's Blessing?
Someone shared having bought a crystal to use in meditation, believing it gathered merit at the body's center, and asked whether this was mistaken. The teacher said it isn't wrong — merit still arises as usual — but there won't be the special guardian effect, since no teacher's transmitted accompanies it. Whatever success follows comes purely from the guardian within one's own field of merit, without any additional outside help.
