The teacher explains the principle of focused attention through the "sphere of knowing" to connect with the inner knower, so that knowledge not found anywhere in the human world can arise — by staying focused without pause until it appears.
A lay follower asked: when we want to know something specific — for instance a recipe — and searching on Google turns up nothing, how should we go about focusing the mind to find it?
Two Kinds of Knowledge, and Connecting with the Inner Knower
The teacher explained that one should first raise up the "sphere of knowing." Knowledge exists in two categories: what already exists in the human world, which people already know, and what does not exist in the human world at all. For the latter, everyone is able to connect with it, but one must understand how. The treasury of all resides within us — otherwise, how could humanity ever develop new innovations? Take the mobile phone we use every day: forty or fifty years ago, no one imagined such a thing could exist. Even the smallest particles, atoms and electrons, humanity came to know of them too. All of this knowledge ultimately comes from the inner knower, transmitted through whoever holds the mind in focused attention, contemplating from whatever basic knowledge they already have. While focusing in this way, the sphere of knowing draws in a stream of pure energy called merit, which flows in and purifies the impurities that obscure — the veil of — until it thins enough for , the knower, to appear and explain.
In worldly terms, meditation and focused are part of the very same principle. Scientists, even without sitting in kaya meditation, are in fact using right — focused attention — and the world's innovations and stores of knowledge have all come through it. If one can reach , the result goes even deeper still.
The Most Important Principle: Know Clearly What You Want
The teacher compared this to how everyone today uses AI to search for knowledge — but if we ourselves aren't clear about what we want, we can't communicate with the AI properly, and our questions miss the point; we first have to learn how it works. The same applies to the inner knower: the knower already knows, but our own lack of clarity comes from the im of ignorance and mistaken views that point us the wrong way. So we must first become clear about what we truly want to know.
The Practice: Stay Focused Without Pause Until Knowledge Appears
Once clear about what is wanted, one must stay focused and contemplate that subject continuously — like a scientist absorbed day and night. Even amid other daily duties, keep building on that focus little by little. As the focus continues, merit flows in and gradually thins the impurity of ignorance, and knowledge begins to appear bit by bit. From waking to sleeping, stay focused on what you want to know, holding attention through the day — morning, afternoon, evening — until the knowledge appears. Don't stop focusing. Try it and see how many days it takes — one, two, or three — and knowledge that was never stored in memory will surface, almost as if you thought of it yourself. This is the result of the inner knower, which everyone can connect with; the principle is simply to keep holding attention without lapsing. Meanwhile the inner knower is not idle either — it helps thin the impurities more and more until insight appears and is explained to us.
The teacher invited everyone to test this for themselves with whatever they wish to develop further — work, finances, or anything else already of interest — and then come back and share the results.
