Wisdom (the knowing) and capability built through practice (the doing) must always be trained together — problems are resolved by the knowing, obstacles are resolved only through practice. Mind-liberation and wisdom-liberation have to go hand in hand for right view to become truly complete.
Someone asked: to develop wisdom to full completeness — right view at 100% — what area should I focus on training?
Wisdom (the knower) and capability (the doer) must go together
The first thing is wisdom — developing it means training in learning and understanding. But in truth it takes two things paired together: the one who knows, and the one with the capability to act. Knowing alone, without practicing, isn't enough — because only through practice does that capability step in to actually resolve things. It's like a university professor who teaches business brilliantly but goes bankrupt running their own, or someone who teaches farming but has never farmed a day in their life. Without the doer stepping in, obstacles simply can't be cleared.
Problems need the knower, obstacles need the doer
Only two things ever really block us in life. It looks like a hundred, a thousand, a million different factors — but in the end it comes down to just two: problems and obstacles. Problems are resolved by wisdom, by the knower — who works its way in, explaining and pointing things out until a clear vision forms, until real inspiration to act arises. Obstacles are resolved by capability, by the skilled doer — and that only shows up once we've actually started practicing.
Developing wisdom to full completeness needs both. Relying only on the knower, without ever practicing, only gets you partway — to a partial wisdom-liberation. The other half needs mind-liberation. The two have to come as a pair.
Mind-liberation and wisdom-liberation must travel together
Knowing without practicing is like a student of the who studies everything and never sits — they end up only knowing what the texts say, never reaching the deeper -born wisdom that goes beyond information on a page. That deeper knowing comes from an inner knower, and there are many levels to it — the more refined the level you reach, the more refined the knower you meet there. And once that knower has explained something, it still takes the doer to carry it into practice, to actually move toward that more refined level.
Mind-liberation and wisdom-liberation aren't the same thing, but they have to work together for liberation to be complete. It's the same with trying to explain or higher knowing — someone who has never practiced can only describe it from a book; they can't really know what that state feels like. The joy that arises from practice is nothing like worldly pleasure — someone who hasn't practiced can't tell the two apart.
So what's worth focusing on, specially, is both together — listen until you understand, and then actually practice. Practicing opens up another level of knowing, because what's written in texts is limited, but inner knowing has no limit. Mind-liberation and wisdom-liberation are the two essential things to train, side by side.
