He explains that shivering cold during meditation comes from lingering impurities — as they're purified it turns into cool comfort — and advises keeping awareness alive in every posture and activity, inviting the revered one's presence to overlay the mind before each task.
A student shared that lately, when she meditates, she doesn't sink into full stillness — but every time she sits and thinks of the revered elder, a cooling senon streams out from within the whole time. Sometimes it turns into an actual cold shiver, as if she keeps sinking deeper inward, catching flashes of light but never quite arriving where she wants to be. This keeps happening often, and she asked why.
The shivering comes from lingering impurities
He explained that this isn't unusual — it's a genuine inner experience. The shivering happens because impurities are still mixed in. Impurities taint even a good experience with something unwelcome; everything unwelcome traces back to impurities. As you keep purifying, the impurities gradually fade, and the sensation turns into cool comfort rather than shivering cold. The flashes of light are a good sign too — they show the darkness (the im) is thinning and light is starting to flicker through. Keep sitting, don't give up.
Give it more time, and keep the awareness alive in every posture
If there's no time for one long sitting, sit in several shorter sessions — whenever there's a free moment, sit. And in every other posture — standing, walking, sitting, lying down, even while talking — keep practicing continuous awareness. Tell yourself: even while talking right now, stay aware, don't drift, keep sensing whatever is present — whether that's the ease of the conversation or picturing the Buddha image in the center of the belly, playfully, without forcing it. All that's needed is for the "knowing" to arise — it doesn't matter what it's anchored to: the Buddha image, a mantra, a feeling of ease, the posture, or a passing thought. Whatever feels light and enjoyable, do it playfully, moment to moment — even while washing dishes. Before starting any activity, pause and set your intention first.
Invite the revered one to overlay the mind, then watch what unfolds
Before doing anything, stop and set the intention that this activity will be done with wholesomeness overlaying it, with Nibbana overlaying it — then carry it out while staying with him the whole time. Whether talking, doing business, or handling finances, invite him to overlay your mind and stay with him, watching the results that appear — how wondrous they turn out to be. The more you stay with him, the more you'll see and prove his wondrousness for yourself, until you no longer want to be anywhere else — you'll want to stay with him all the time. There's no need to wait for some future arrival, because as long as you remain within system, darkness moves steadily toward light, not-knowing gradually becomes knowing, until you can connect with him — communicating almost like shared thought. From there things keep improving, and wonders keep appearing. This has to be proven for yourself — just as many who stay close to the teacher gradually came to sense it, grew more skilled, learned to connect, and watched the wonders unfold, until this life was no longer ordinary.
