Pra Ajarn explains that vision arises from clear knowledge and understanding, from both the inner and outer knower. When clear, it yields inspiration and the resolve to change one's life, with the spheres of wisdom, liberation, and its knowledge-vision as tools. Humans develop two things — knowledge and tools — both of which the inner world already holds complete.
Someone asked: where does vision come from — the inner knower or the outer?
Vision Arises From Clear Knowledge and Understanding
Both the inner and outer knower can produce vision. Vision can only arise from — there must be a foundation of clear knowledge and understanding; only when clear does vision appear. Without understanding, vision can't arise at all. When vision arises continuously, inspiration to change one's life toward a better, nobler life arises. Someone without knowledge and understanding can hardly have vision, so they must seek a knower, who explains until it's clear; and once very clear, the future appears vividly — how it can be good — and inspiration to change arises, until the resolve forms that one simply must act.
The Spheres of Wisdom, Liberation, and Its Knowledge-Vision Are Tools
Within us are the spheres of — morality, concentration, wisdom, liberation, and knowledge-and-vision of liberation. The sphere of wisdom gives clear understanding and the wish to be freed from what is bad, the fruit of . The sphere of liberation does the freeing — but one must first see the danger; without that, it can't work. Once freed from the unwholesome, one must see the value of , so the sphere of knowledge-and-vision of liberation can develop one into a better, nobler, and most wondrous life.
Humans Develop Two Things: Knowledge and Tools
From ancient times to now, humans have developed only two things: knowledge and tools. Take farming: from the hunting age to the agricultural age, one had to learn about seeds, tilling, watering, weeding, grafting — all secret knowledge passed down, which came from the inner knower to the outer knower. The other is developing tools: from digging with the hands, to hoe and spade, to the plow, to the tractor.
The Inner World Already Holds Knowledge and Automatic Tools Complete
Both these the inner world has too. The inner world already holds knowledge, with the inner knower who owns the science; and the inner tools are already automatic. The inner world is a perfect world; its tools — the spheres of morality, concentration, wisdom, liberation, and its knowledge-vision — are all automatic tools within. We must reach the inner knower, and then we can change our life, accessing the knowledge and automatic tools that make thinking easier.
