The teacher explains that sensations like a tilting or swaying body, or goosebumps, during meditation are pre-rapture symptoms that arise when purity is not yet complete. This is normal and will gradually fade on its own if we continue meditating the way that has been working, without changing methods or hoping for particular experiences.

A lay follower asked whether () can arise in this tradition of practice. In their case, the mind could see , but after sitting for a while they would feel the body tilting to the left each time — though upon opening their eyes, the body was still upright as normal. What causes this, and how should they continue their practice?

What Causes Rapture

The teacher explained that rapture arises from the energy of purifying the mind to a degree the mind can perceive, giving rise to a feeling of deep inner fullness and . Senons some practitioners report — goosebumps, a sense of the body expanding, swaying, or tilting — are symptoms that arise before that fullness becomes clearly apparent. These vary from person to person; some see a tilted image of a Buddha figure, similar to the distorted picture of an old-style television.

Why This Happens

These sensations arise because purity is not yet fully complete — though we are now able to perceive it. Previously, obscured everything so completely that nothing could be perceived at all. As ignorance is gently peeled back to some degree, we begin to notice what is arising. Mindfulness and become more complete, allowing us to perceive more — but because purity is still incomplete, these odd sensations continue to appear to our awareness.

What to Do Going Forward

The teacher advised continuing to meditate using whatever method has been working, without changing it. The pull of pure energy will continue to purify the impurity, gradually clearing it away, and these incomplete sensations will fade on their own — good experiences will arise naturally in their own time. But one should not hope for or crave particular good experiences, because craving pulls the mind away from steady awareness and traps it in an unwholesome dimension that leads to fanciful daydreaming. Our only role is to maintain steady, unwavering awareness — the rest is the work of the sphere of awareness, which will go on drawing in energy to purify the remaining impurity.
