If, this lifetime, we endure and build perfections through to the very end, we will pass on with a heart full of joy, like a king returning from a won battle — because we were born into a special sphere of merit carrying the mission of helping the world witness the wonder of the inner Triple Gem together.
Someone asked Pra Ajarn to expand on the revered teacher's teaching: "If we win this life, we win forever after."
If, this lifetime, we endure and build perfections all the way to the final moment, we will smile as one who has triumphed — a smile of confidence that we made the fullest possible use of this body. We will leave this world filled with joy, like a king who, having won his battle, departs his conquered domain with a heart full of delight and pride. Winning this life means winning forever after, because this is a critical lifetime — a lifetime in which we and the world will witness something wondrous unfold: the phenomenon of kaya.
In truth, we already knew this before we came to be born, back when we were in the special sphere of merit in the Tusita heaven, at the time the late revered teacher descended to bring the of Dhammakaya into being on earth — something that, in the ordinary course of things, only a fully enlightened Buddha can accomplish; no one else normally can. But upon being born as a human being, one forgets everything, as is the ordinary rule — even though, as celestial beings, we all knew Dhammakaya as a matter of course. In the era when the Buddha attained enlightenment, those celestial beings descended to study the with him and reached the Triple Gem in the ordinary way. But once born as humans, veiled by the neutral and , we forget everything; everyone born into this circle forgets alike, however much merit and perfection they carry — the mind struggles to grasp the method, except for certain noble ones.
Those who build perfections on earth generally do so following what is recorded in the scriptures — knowledge limited to what's written there, beyond which it becomes hard to understand. But the late revered teacher, having accumulated perfections across countless Buddhas, carried perfections so full and complete that he could be born on earth and bring the knowledge of Dhammakaya into being. When we, still in the heavenly realm, heard news of his success, we rejoiced that the Dhammakaya knowledge of the Buddhas would arise on earth once more. The revered teacher then told us it was time to prepare to descend and build perfections following him — this descent marks a critical lifetime, the last time we would be born not knowing anything at all in this way.
This descent, then, calls for building perfections to the fullest — through sitting meditation and unified aspiration, drawing on what had already been well accumulated, devoting every fraction of every moment to intention we had set. Before descending from the heavenly realm, we had all made this same vow — yet once actually born, life turned out full of and not-knowing, requiring us to rely on the Triple Gem and on the emperor within the sphere of merit for guidance amid so much confusion in life, before we could come to know, understand, and eventually reach it — all made possible only through merit and perfection well accumulated beforehand. This is why the community and the revered teacher brought this understanding forward as support for building perfections, until, working together, they built the Great Dhammakaya Cetiya — a model of the Buddha's nibbana made manifest on earth — mobilizing people from around the world to accumulate merit and perform a sacred ceremony there, bringing together three components: the Dhammakaya, the good hearts of a million people, and a place that serves as a center of .
When these three components come together, purity spreads across the great assembly, allowing the millions gathered there to settle into a blissful dhamma-state, clearing away the elements that obscure and conceal, reaching the dhamma-sphere, the sphere of precept, concentration, wisdom, liberation, and liberation-knowledge-and-vision — traveling the path through the refined bodies, the celestial body, the form-Brahma body, the formless-Brahma body, up through the path- and fruit-bodies of stream-entry, once-returning, non-returning, and arahantship — eighteen bodies altogether — refining ever further until reaching the sacred knowledge, coming to know that one was born precisely to discover life's true purpose, just as vowed back in the heavenly realm before descending to be born.
When the people of the world reach this state of and purity, it will stand as a wonder occurring on earth in this very lifetime. After that, the world's people will gradually come to reach the Triple Gem in ever greater numbers, and the world will transform into a world of peace, its remaining time devoted to the practice of this sacred knowledge — with tremendous consequences for the transformation of our own lives. Until now, we have used the coarse body to carry out our activities on earth, ill-suited to this sacred practice; but inner refinement can turn heavy karmic results light, transforming life from here on entirely. This is why this lifetime is the last one in which we are born not knowing anything at all — from here on, those born into the world will meet the Triple Gem and know their life's true purpose from the very start. That is why it is said: if we win this life, we win forever after.
