Someone asked: when a person is deceived by call-center scammers, is that old karma or new karma — and is there any way to escape it?
Old Karma Ripening
This is old karma, a ripening of past deeds — the person once deceived others, and so now has to face being deceived and losing money in turn. What is strange is that if our inner voice does not go along with it, we simply cannot be fooled, because the outer voice and the inner voice have to cooperate for the deception to work.
When Inner and Outer Voices Align
The sin-sphere (ดวงบาป) sends out a current that draws the scammer to feel the urge to dial this particular number. At the same time, our own inner voice answers in kind, falling into alignment — stirring up panic, and forcing us to believe. Whatever the scammer insists on, the voice inside agrees, urging us to hurry and comply.
Those Without This Karma Are Not Fooled
But if a person does not carry this particular karmic debt, then even when the call center calls, () within them does not respond. If their mind is avyākata — indeterminate, neither wholesome nor unwholesome — they simply pay no attention at all. But if it is wholesome (), the inner voice warns immediately: this is clearly a scam, stay away from it. So you can see that how we respond depends entirely on our own inner voice — whether it answers in kind to the unwholesome or not. And for that answering-in-kind to happen at all, there must be supporting old karma, along with the right convergence of timing, atmosphere, and circumstances — all coming together at the moment we must face this hell on earth, right here on the human plane.
Once the Time Comes, There Is No Escape
Once that moment arrives, there is no escaping it, because it unfolds completely according to a fixed, already-accomplished blueprint (ผังสำเร็จ). However much money is lost — hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, or millions — it is all simply the working-out of that fixed blueprint. At the centre of the sin-sphere sits a still darker point, the misfortune-sphere (ดวงวิบัติ): the sin-sphere itself is already dark, but this one is darker still. However much must be lost, it unfolds according to that misfortune. That is simply how it is.
