ชาติที่แล้วก็เหมือนกับเมื่อวาน เมื่อวานเราทำงานอะไรค้างไว้ วันนี้เราก็รู้และทำต่อได้ ความผิดพลาดใด ๆ ที่เกิดขึ้นเราก็รู้ การรู้กับการไม่รู้นั้นต่างกัน ถ้าไม่รู้ก็ไม่รู้ว่าจะเริ่มต้นและไปต่ออย่างไร ซึ่งยากมาก แต่ถ้ารู้ว่าชาติที่แล้วเรามุ่งมั่นทำอะไรมา ก็จะรู้ว่าทำไมจึงมุ่งมั่นทำเช่นนี้

เหมือนที่หลวงพ่อสร้างรูปหล่อทองคำของหลวงปู่ไว้ตามที่ต่าง ๆ ท่านบอกว่าก็เพื่อให้ผู้คนแปลกใจและใส่ใจว่า ทำไมบุคคลนี้จึงต้องหล่อด้วยทองคำ และมีตั้งหลายองค์ ก็ต้องไปศึกษาสอบถามหาคำตอบ พอเกิดคำว่า 'ทำไม' ก็อยากรู้เหตุผล เช่นเดียวกัน เมื่อเราระลึกชาติได้ ก็จะเกิดคำถามว่าทำไมชาติก่อน ๆ เราจึงทำเช่นนี้มาอย่างต่อเนื่อง

ระลึกชาติได้แต่เยาว์ ไม่ต้องเสียเวลาเริ่มใหม่

แต่ละชาติเราทำอย่างต่อเนื่อง วัยเด็กพ่อแม่ก็สอนให้ทาน รักษา เจริญภาวนา ศึกษาธรรมะ โตขึ้นก็ศึกษาเอง ไปบวช ไปปฏิบัติ หากเด็กเกิดมาแล้วสามารถระลึกชาติได้ ก็จะรู้เหตุรู้ผล และประกอบเหตุสืบต่อจากชาติที่แล้วได้ แต่ถ้าไม่รู้ ก็ดำเนินไปอย่างคนไม่รู้ ยิ่งถ้าเป็นใหญ่หรือมีกำลังมาก ก็พากินเล่นเต้นเที่ยวไปเรื่อย กว่าจะรู้ตัวอายุก็มากแล้ว แต่ถ้าระลึกชาติได้ตั้งแต่เยาว์วัย ก็รู้ต้นสาย สามารถมาศึกษาค้นคว้าเรื่องเดิม ๆ ต่อได้ตั้งแต่ยังเล็ก ไม่เสียเวลามาก

A Past Life Is Like Yesterday

A past life is like yesterday. Whatever work we left unfinished yesterday, today we know it and can continue; whatever mistakes occurred, we know them. Knowing and not knowing differ. Without knowing, we don't know how to begin or continue — which is very hard. But knowing what we strove for in the past life, we understand why we strive at this now.

He said it was so that people would wonder and take notice: why must this person be cast in gold, and in so many images? They would then go study and inquire to find the answer. Once the question 'why' arises, one wants the reason. In the same way, recalling past lives makes one ask why, life after life, one has continued doing this.

Recalling From an Early Age Saves Starting Over

Each life we continue the work. In childhood, parents teach us to give, keep precepts, meditate, and study the ; growing up, we study on our own, ordain, and practice. If a child can recall past lives, they'll know the causes and effects and can continue the work from the previous life. Without knowing, one proceeds as one who doesn't know — and if dominates or the neutral has strength, one is led into endless idle amusement, and by the time one comes to one's senses, one is already old. But recalling past lives from youth, one knows the origin and can continue studying the same matters from a young age, without much wasted time.
