Pra Ajarn answers by drawing on a scientific water-crystal experiment, his own direct experience, and accounts recorded in the Tipitaka, confirming that holy water genuinely helps ease impurities at a basic level.

A student asked whether holy water (nam mon) truly has the Buddha's power to ease impurities at a basic level.

Pra Ajarn answered by pointing to the experiment of the Japanese researcher Dr. Masaru Emoto, who exposed water to different words — "thank you," "peace," "love" — versus harsh words like "I will kill you," then dripped each sample onto a glass slide under a microscope and froze it into crystals. The resulting crystals differed strikingly: water exposed to kind words formed beautiful crystals, while water exposed to harsh words formed no beautiful shape at all. He also showed images comparing river water before and after a chanting ceremony — again showing a clear difference — demonstrating that water itself genuinely changes when it passes through sound waves and mental energy.

Pra Ajarn then shared his own direct experience. Years ago, during a period when soldiers surrounded the temple, his body became locked and immovable, in painful distress. A fellow monk who had faith in a revered elder teacher at Phu Khao Khwai brought holy water and offered it to him. Out of respect for his fellow monk's faith, he drank it — and the condition genuinely resolved.

He also cited two accounts from the Tipitaka. First, during an epidemic in a city in the Buddha's time, the Buddha had Venerable Ananda chant and prepare holy water to relieve the people's suffering. Second, the story of Venerable Angulimala: while out on almsround, he came upon a pregnant woman near her time, who, terrified at recognizing him, fled and became stuck at a fence. Moved by compassion, he made holy water from the water in his almsbowl and made a solemn asseveration of truth (saccakiriya), and the woman was able to give birth safely.

Pra Ajarn concluded that holy water genuinely has the power to ease impurities at a basic level — supported by scientific evidence, his own direct experience, and accounts recorded in the Tipitaka.
