The best day of one's life is the day the dhamma body is attained — not the day one becomes a minister, president, or billionaire. Reaching the inner dhamma body is the hardest thing of all, because the forces of Mara never yield easily, but there is a shortcut: simulating the feeling of being the Buddha image, which has a similar effect and can be built upon.
Someone asked: what does it mean to attain the body?
The best day of one's life is the day one attains the dhamma body — not the day one becomes a director-general, minister, president, or the world's wealthiest billionaire, since such positions all have their limits. Knowing the inner dhamma body brings us to genuine and to an understanding of the truth of life as taught by the Buddha, recorded in the Tipitaka.
Before Being Born: News of Our Founder's Attainment Brought Joy Throughout the Special Merit Circle
Before descending to be born on earth, while still in the Tusita heaven's special merit circle, when everyone learned that our founder — the presiding figure of the special merit circle — had descended to be born human and successfully attained the inner dhamma body, everyone was tremendously excited and overjoyed. Even though everyone in Tusita naturally already had access to the dhamma body, once born on earth, everyone forgets everything and must start entirely from zero.
Why Attaining the Dhamma Body Is the Hardest Thing of All
Attaining the dhamma body is the hardest thing of all, because on earth, in each era, the first person able to attain it can only be the Buddha himself — since the forces of Mara never yield easily. But our founder was a special individual sent down by the root element specifically to bring the dhamma-body back. To attain the dhamma body, body and mind must unite as one, and the white wholesome side must control every single layer, one after another, correcting things step by step to make attainment possible — while the dark side resists at every turn. Even though the knowledge of the dhamma body had once been lost, since we remain within the dispenon of the Buddha Gau in this era, bringing Buddhism back to flourish required attaining the dhamma body once more, so that the knowledge could be brought forth and used again.
The Special Merit Circle's Motto: Seek Merit, Build Perfections, Attain the Dhamma Body
Ordinary people in the world, or bodhisattvas in general, may descend only to seek merit and build perfections. But the special merit circle must accomplish three things: seek merit, build perfections, and also attain the dhamma body. This is why, upon hearing that our founder had brought the dhamma-body knowledge forth, everyone in the special merit circle rejoiced so greatly — it meant that this particular descent was now safe. Without the knowledge of the dhamma body present in the world, descending to be born human would be truly terrifying, since one wouldn't know how to rely on the Triple Gem — because the dhamma body is itself the Triple Gem, unified as one.
The Background Pushes Us Back Toward the Source of the Knowledge
Even though we forget everything upon being born and growing into adults, the background — both the of the emperor figure at the center of our sphere of merit, and the background running through all eighteen bodies — keeps pushing us, layer by layer, back toward the source of the knowledge. Even once we reach that source, we may not pay it much attention at first, since and the neutral within us resist easily. But having arrived there, we continue diligently practicing and meditating, because compels us to — and because each of us made an aspiration before being born: to accumulate merit, build perfections, and attain the dhamma body in this very life.
The Human Body Is the Most Precious Gift for Breaking Through Every Dimension
Using the dhamma body to break through and be liberated dimension by dimension is, while not difficult, also not quick — unlike relying on the human body, which is sturdy and can withstand hardship far better than the fragile divine body. Everyone therefore hopes that, once they have a suitable human body, they can use the dhamma body to break through the middle path across countless dimensions in a truly remarkable way. Obtaining a human body together with attaining the dhamma body is thus considered the most precious gift in the cycle of rebirth — even Brahma and formless Brahma beings are not as fortunate as one who attains the dhamma body while human.
Attaining the Dhamma Body Has Its Own Season, But There Is a Shortcut
Attaining the dhamma body can be called hard, and it isn't easy either, since certain conditions are involved. Even our founder practiced continuously from the very first day of ordination, and it still took a full ten years before attaining the dhamma body. Even the Buddha himself, after leaving home, had to pass through the fourth jhana, the eighth jhana, and years of ascetic practice before attaining supreme enlightenment and the dhamma body.
Even so, there is a shortcut — called simulated attainment — which also has real effect, since the dhamma body already resides within us, and our mind is itself an accomplished element. Simply adopting the feeling that we are the Buddha image, and the Buddha image is us, as our teacher instructed, is a simulated form of attainment with a similar effect, and it can be built upon toward the real point of attainment. Since attainment ranges from 0% to 100%, it's better to hold 30, 40, 60, or even 70% for now than to have nothing at all — zero percent.
