Every being comes into existence because the three natures shape it through what is called "the elements of the Dhamma." Our teacher's own teacher perceived this truth directly through the Dhamma-eye of the Dhammakaya, which is why he could explain the hidden mechanics of life more deeply than most teachings ever go.
A student cited a teaching from our teacher's own teacher on the niyama Sutta: whether or not a Buddha arises, these truths already exist — they don't depend on anyone. Every being, in every mode of birth, comes into existence because "the elements of the Dhamma" produce it. He wondered why almost no monastic teacher, and not even the Abhi Pitaka, ever discusses this.
Why Almost No One Teaches This
The teacher explained that this is because our teacher's own teacher went and saw this truth directly himself — others simply haven't seen it, so they can't speak of it. Seeing it requires the Dhamma-eye of the Dhammakaya and inner , much like observing microbes requires both a microscope (the eye) and light. Without that , one might see something but not understand what it is; a knowledgeable guide is needed to explain it.
The Dhammaniyama Sutta: Three Natures Shaping All Beings
All four modes of birth — from eggs, from wombs, from moisture, and spontaneous birth — arise because the elements of the Dhamma produce them, both at the coarse level we can see, such as conception, and at a refined level science hasn't yet reached. These elements comprise three natures: wholesome, unwholesome, and neutral. The Buddha needed twenty incalculable aeons plus a great many more aeons of accumulated merit before attaining the supreme awakening needed to see this directly — because simply doing good, avoiding evil, and purifying the mind, as the world already teaches, isn't enough on its own to escape the cycle of rebirth.
The Inner Voice That Controls Us at Every Moment
The three natures control all beings through an "inner voice" that feels like our own thinking. A hatchling turtle with no parent to teach it still knows to crawl to the sea; young animals know to nurse without being taught. This shows an inbuilt program guiding from within. Whichever nature manages to seize the mind overlays its own pattern of body, feeling, mind, and mental objects, so its feelings, thoughts, and behavior appear as if they were ours. This is why human behavior looks remarkably alike across every nation and language on earth, despite languages being utterly different — because everyone runs on the same underlying program from the three natures.
The Law of Karma and the Law of the Three Characteristics Work Together
Every time we successfully carry out an intention, wholesome or not, it is sealed into a completed sphere of merit or demerit and placed on our life's timeline, waiting for its moment to bear fruit. The law of karma pulls in circumstances to deliver that result moment by moment, while uses the pleasure or displeasure that result produces as the trigger for us to create new causes, endlessly. In form, wholesome states appear as bright, luminous spheres; unwholesome ones as dark spheres — each with the qualities of its own nature.
The Tools Already Within Us: Precepts, Concentration, Wisdom
We must choose to stay with nature alone, since only it brings us true benefit. The tools for doing so already exist within every one of us: precepts, concentration, wisdom, liberation, and the knowledge-and-vision of liberation. Precepts draw in merit to protect our body and speech; concentration purifies the mind and its s; and wisdom lets us see the danger in and the value in the wholesome, carrying us toward liberation one level at a time.
