Phra Ajarn Suraphong teaches that the inner state must change before the outer state can follow, restates the importance of finding a clear, continuous signal for the mind to hold onto, and closes by dedicating this ordination's merit on the occasion of the Venerable Grand Abbot's birthday anniversary.

The Inner State Must Change Before the Outer State Follows

Phra Ajarn Suraphong opens with the principle that a life abiding within the system of wholesome states is a life of continuous liberation. Each time we're liberated, we reach something better and finer, again and again. Our inner standing shifts toward greater refinement, and this inner standing is itself the cause of our outer circumstances — the inner must change first, before the outer follows. He warns against forcing the mind, because forcing invites unwholesome states to seize the opportunity to disturb us. Instead, gently support the mind, continuing steadily with a feeling of constant, unforced awareness — no straining, no forcing.

Mark a Clear Point, Then Settle Knowing There

He explains that "determining" means marking a particular point — the centre of the body, the in-and-out breath, the surface of the skin, or the fingers — and bringing our knowing to settle there. That point becomes a gateway into the inner dimension. As establishes itself there, it draws in the pure energy called merit, flowing in continuously, purifying that spot so it can serve as a doorway into a finer dimension. The system of wholesome states distills away the impurities that bind us to our current dimension, letting them dissolve and fall away. Once what was binding us is gone, we slip into a finer dimension, layer by layer.

A Life of Liberation Unfolds Continuously, Even Unnoticed

He reiterates that if we abide within the system of wholesome states, life itself is a continuous movement from one dimension to another, even without our conscious awareness. Even while things feel hazy or unclear, liberation is still happening the whole time — simply by abiding within this system. As we move into a finer dimension, we access purer energy, more sacred merit, more valuable subtle fortune, more refined patterns of success, and wiser, more capable guides watching over us.

A Clear, Continuous Signal: The Heart of Choosing a Meditation Object

He teaches that whether we're knowing a word of recitation, a mental image, or any familiar meditation object, what matters is that it lets mindfulness settle continuously. We must mark something for mindfulness to rest on, and that something must carry a clear, continuous "signal." If the signal isn't clear and continuous, mindfulness drifts, the mind wanders without anything solid to hold, and the drawing-in of pure energy simply doesn't happen. Once we've determined our object, let mindfulness watch over it steadily, gently, at ease.

Loving-Kindness: From a Bright Sphere in the Heart to Benefiting All Beings Across the Universe

He leads a recollection of , appearing as a bright, clear sphere in the centre of the heart, filled with the quality of calm, love, and genuine goodwill toward oneself and toward the whole world and all beings. This brightness radiates to fill the meditation hall, wishing all fellow practitioners freedom from suffering and true ; then it expands to cover the practice grounds, the village, sub-district, district, many provinces, the whole country, and neighboring nations, until it covers the whole world as a radiant, cool, pure jewel. May the earth spirits, sky spirits, all heavenly beings, brahma gods, and the beings of hell, the asuras, and animals be freed from suffering and find happiness. May those with much suffering have less, and those with little happiness have more. It then expands through the whole atmosphere of the universe, embracing the countless stars, dissolving ill will in the hearts of all beings and calling forth wholesome states in everyone. He reiterates: whoever benefits the world and the universe can in turn make use of the fortune of the world and the universe.

Dedicating This Ordination's Merit on the Teacher's Birthday Anniversary

During the formal aspiration, he explains that this ordination and practice fall on the occasion of the Venerable Grand Abbot's birthday anniversary. This is why everyone present resolved to ordain and to practice giving, precepts, meditation, and study of the — so that the merit born from this ordination could be offered as a Dhamma tribute to the Venerable Grand Abbot. May he enjoy strong health, be freed from all illness, live a long life, and remain a refuge for his students and for all beings across the world; and may every good aspiration he has set his heart on be fulfilled completely.

Aspiring to Nibbāna and Closing With the Chant

He leads the formal aspiration to Nibbāna and the great teachers, asking that all merit accumulated since our very first life, through countless births, converge into sacred, boundlessly powerful merit; that it purify body, speech, mind, and every element within us until they shine clear, cool, and pure; that we be freed from misfortune, the fruits of bad kamma, and every obstacle; that greed, hatred, delusion, , wrong view, craving, and clinging be exhausted without remainder; that we reach and penetrate the of the in full, together with good health and long life. The sit closes with an aspiration of forgiveness for past unwholesome deeds and the chant "Sabbe Buddhānubhāvena, Sabbe Dhammānubhāvena, Sabbe Saṅghānubhāvena, Saddhā Sotthī Bhavantu Te."
