จักรพรรดิแห่งดวงบุญ และผังสำเร็จที่ขับเคลื่อนชีวิตเราโดยไม่รู้ตัวThe Chakraphat of Our Merit, and the Blueprint That Drives Our Life Without Our Knowing
An evening dhamma talk from the Luang Phor Ordination Retreat, Class 11. Pra Ajarn explains that within everyone's sphere of merit sits a "chakraphat" — a personal manager who administers our resources according to the blueprint set by our own aspirations, which is why successful people keep meeting "the right person" by what looks like coincidence. He then moves through refined treasure, the dhamma sphere, the night of the Buddha's enlightenment, and a cautionary story on why we must always abide in the wholesome system.
Earlier in the day we discussed the "chakraphat" within our sphere of merit — julajakra (lesser), mahajakra (great), and boromajakra (supreme) — who act as each person's personal manager, administering the resources within our merit to bring about the blueprint we ourselves once resolved and aspired to.
The Chakraphat: The Manager Behind Every Success
Study the biography of anyone who has succeeded — Bill Gates or anyone else — and you will find they are constantly guided by their chakraphat: one coincidence after another, placing them in front of the right person at the right time. Out of the millions of people in a country, the hundreds of millions in America alone, they still end up meeting exactly the right person to bring on board — sometimes committing to a deal before even knowing if they can deliver, yet somehow it works out, managed behind the scenes by the chakraphat. We have no idea why; the chakraphat already knows where each person is, what needs to be drawn together, what has to happen first before what comes next — pulling every element into place in sequence, coordinating so precisely it seems miraculous. No human being could engineer this alone; it runs continuously according to the blueprint already set within the sphere of merit. How far each of us rises depends only on the strength of merit driving this automatic system toward its goal.
The Blueprint: Coincidences That Aren't Coincidences
This blueprint isn't only on the side of merit — demerit has its own blueprint too, and whichever one gets triggered plays out exactly as set, on its own schedule. We are driven by both the merit blueprint and the demerit blueprint at all times, without understanding any of it; we simply feel pushed toward one thing or another.
The Pendulum of Karmic Result: From Crushing Debt to Wealth
Some people, working an honest livelihood, come to the very edge of ruin yet somehow never fully collapse — and can even turn things around better than before. People who fall hundreds of millions, even billions, into debt sometimes manage not only to repay it all but to become wealthier than they ever were. It's like a pendulum swung all the way to one extreme: anyone capable of accumulating debt on that scale already possesses an extraordinary capacity — the very same capacity, once the pendulum swings the other way, to generate wealth at that same scale. We don't live in a world where wishing to be rich simply makes it so, wanting the hundreds of millions or billions that others have. Everything follows the blueprint already drawn by the refined treasure within us.
Refined Treasure: The Foundation of Wealth, in Khun Yay's Teaching
A student who was an engineer once asked Khun Yay how to become wealthy. She answered that to be wealthy, one must hold a great deal of refined treasure at one's center — because it is this refined treasure that draws in the coarse wealth of the world. If the refined treasure is small, it is like a weak magnet, able to draw in only a little at a time. We must therefore keep accumulating it, and Khun Yay said this is simple: just meditate correctly, to draw in the stream of merit. Then, whenever we have time and means, give, keep , and cultivate meditation — gathering everything we can.
Merit Begins the Moment We Resolve to Act
The instant we resolve to do something good, within us rushes to draw in, then quietly, gradually, whispers guidance to us — it isn't that we think of doing merit purely on our own; the wholesome system races to whisper it to us. Ordinarily we might make merit at one or two temples, at most nine. But once we enter a sustained cycle of accumulation, that whisper repeats again and again until enough merit gathers to give us a "moment of decisive clarity" — the feeling of being full enough that we must act. As we act bit by bit, new merit joins the old, dissolving stains and guiding us to keep going, until it fills out to match what we aspired to. All of this runs by an automatic law entirely beyond our understanding; we only set the aspiration, while the wholesome guides its fulfillment. Too much feels heavy; too little feels hollow — until it settles into balance.
The Time Bomb of Demerit, and Why We Must Learn the Three Natures
Everything lies under the control of the three natures. However good or bad our lives turn out, it all runs through this system. The Buddha declared that life is suffering because he saw a mountain of a time bomb, waiting to be set on the timeline of our lives, counting down to detonation — spanning not just this life but lives beyond, without end. It is truly frightening — and when that bomb goes off, unbearable suffering follows. This is why we must learn how the three natures operate and bring ourselves into alignment with the wholesome system. Simply saying "avoid evil, do good, purify the mind" is not enough; we must learn how to establish the wholesome system so it can draw in purity continuously, because every person, every religion, understands "good" differently. If everyone already understood it the same way, the Buddha would never have needed to awaken to supreme enlightenment.
The Night of Enlightenment: When Māra Possessed Even Those Close to Buddhahood
On the night our Buddha attained enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree, a deva in the Paranimmita-vasavatti heaven — who was destined to attain Buddhahood three Buddha-eons later — was possessed by Māra and drove him to disrupt that very night. So too was the elephant Nāḷāgiri, destined for Buddhahood nine Buddha-eons later. This happens because everything moves through the system of the three natures, each side accumulating its own power: the wholesome side gathering enough strength for future Buddhahood, side gathering strength to oppose it — and only beings of comparably matched perfection can obstruct one another in this way.
The Dhamma Sphere: The Software Within Each Body, and Why It Was Hidden
The sphere holds the elements, energy, and wavelength — the "software" — belonging to each body: the refined human body, the celestial body, the form-Brahma body, up through the formless-Brahma body. Within each body's dhamma sphere sit three things: that body's elements, its store of merit and demerit, and its software of morality, concentration, wisdom, liberation, and -and-vision-of-liberation. Today the dhamma sphere sits at the sixth base while the sphere of mind sits at the seventh; originally the two sat together, until the dhamma sphere was pressed down and hidden away, beyond anyone's reach — until the Buddha arose as the one person able to enter and recover it. Our own Luang Phor was, by his own recorded account, another such special person, sent by the Lord of the Elements and to bring the knowledge of Dhammakaya back into the world, and we remain within that special circle of merit down to our own Luang Pu today.
A Cautionary Story: A Blueprint That Cannot Be Refused
Some years ago, a man planned in detail to assault a woman; demerit had already arranged the setting and compelled everything toward that plan. But it turned out that the karmic burden that night did not belong to that particular woman — it was, unknown to either of them, his own daughter who was drawn into that same place at that same time, both of them driven there by the unwholesome without realizing whom they were about to meet. Everything was seized and arranged exactly to the pre-set blueprint, atmosphere included — undeniable, and truly frightening. This is precisely why we must always abide within the wholesome system: it is what turns what would otherwise be heavy into something light, and from there, gradually, resolvable.
