When the heart becomes clear all the way to the bright inner image of the Buddha, our thoughts, words, and deeds naturally become a source of goodness. This creates a connection that draws in people of merit, and communication happens heart to heart, so inspiring others to do good becomes entirely natural.
Someone asked the teacher to expand on the elder monk's teaching, "From heart to heart, to inspire people toward goodness."
A clear heart is the source of goodness
If every disciple can still the mind until reaching the bright, clear inner image of the Buddha, then once the heart is clear, thought, speech, and action naturally turn toward good, because the stream of goodness flows at the center of that clear brightness. Thoughts will naturally incline toward giving, keeping precepts, meditating, and inviting others to do good as well. Even if the person we invite disagrees or resists, wisdom will arise to show us how to answer and guide the converon toward the goal. When our heart is clear, a connection forms that draws people of merit toward us, building trust, and communication happens heart to heart.
Thinking is an obstacle; awareness must be relied upon instead
Thinking is simply rearranging old data drawn from memory, so it is inherently limited. If we want a better method or better information, we must stop thinking and instead establish awareness — setting and , recalling exactly what we want to know. The inner knower then sends information through that awareness, reaching further than ordinary thought ever could. Connecting with system depends on cultivating awareness and stopping thought. Awareness is mindfulness itself; once established, it draws in pure energy that clears away the defilement of . If no answer appears yet, that shows defilement is still present, and needs more practice to become familiar.
Precepts, concentration, wisdom: raising the inner status before the outer
Helping others requires a heart full of together with wisdom, considering whether the person needs release from suffering or wishes to reach something better. True upliftment must begin from the inner dimension — through precepts aimed at in every single rule, concentration understood as awareness paired with and purity, and wisdom that frees us from wrong views. The more we know and understand the truth, the more and the neutral are worn down. To help someone truly find release, we must first help them see the danger and suffering in what they are currently experiencing, so the wish to be free arises within them.
Giving the gift of Dhamma surpasses every other gift
Every time we bring benefit to someone through , we ourselves are the first to receive the result — our own loving-kindness grows ever brighter. Giving the Dhamma is a change of status from the inside out, with effects that carry on across countless lifetimes. From one small point we share, the listener's regard grows from respect, to reverence, to genuine faith. All of this is precisely the duty we were born into this human life to fulfil — helping others come to stand within the wholesome system, just as we ourselves do.
